5. Long Rail Gully Wines
Family owned and operated, Long Rail Gully is a true local vineyard with every step from growth to bottling undertaken onsite in “The Big Shed.” The vineyard is known for its scenic location with a 6-acre lake filled with trout and producing exceptional quality cool climate wines. If you call prior, barbeques are available for picnics making this a great spot to spend the day and relax.
4. Eden Road Wines
Eden Road prides themselves on doing things the classic way. They may not have much in terms of high-tech equipment but it delivers the charms and classic winery feel you think of. Their tasting space is excellent year-round, with its adjoining gardens offering great summer walks while the tasting space itself is warm and cozy during winter. Simplicity is key here with the winery honing its award-winning Shiraz and Reisling varieties. The food offered here is also something not to be missed.
3. Helm Wines
Bringing a different style, Ken Helm is the 4th generation of German vignerons that brought their craft to Australia in the 1850s. Helm is the first in the Canberra District establishing the winery in 1973 and brings specialty Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon to the region. The two wines have been meticulously grown over the years, winning many awards along the way. The Helm cellar door is unique in itself being located within the heritage-listed restored Toual School House originally built in 1888.
2. Shaw Vineyard
Family owned and run, the Shaw Vineyards are located within the heart of Canberra’s wine region. Known as one of the best producers of cool climate wines, Shaw Vineyard was the winner of the Best Australian Cabernet awarded at the 2018 London International Wine Challenge. Their cellar door also offers amazing dining experiences and handcrafted Italian ceramics.
- Gundog Estate
Gundog Estate has the prestige of being a James Halliday-rated five red star boutique vineyard. They are renowned for their Cabernet-based Rosé, Riesling and Shiraz. Located in Gundaroo village, their Cork St. cellar door has amazing options aside from wine ranging to gourmet items, local produce, cheese and charcuterie plates.
