Have been guests at the Westin previously and back again so obviously my wife and I like the resort BUT the new Moo Moo Bar n Grill are GREAT. The renovations have finished so I was looking forward to the first opening night. Considering the new format, menu and wine list it went down very well. Our steaks were great the wine list matched. We had a beautiful Shiraz. The bathrooms are showing their age but that is the only criticism I could come up with. I'll be heading back again especially now that Moo Moo has opened. Our problems although relatively minor and have since been rectified started at check in. Reception initially wanted us to pay for our stay up front, "Again". We explained that we had already paid for our stay some months ago and for the receptionist to check our booking details. After doing so the receptionist agreed the stay had been paid for but she would need to take an imprint of our credit card for the room account. The imprint of the credit card done we were off to our room which was very nice and overlooking the sea. After 5 days of relaxation, drinks at happy hour and a couple of meals charged to the room account, wife decided to check to room bill and found that Westin had removed a significant amount of money from our credit card without authority as a room deposit and the room account was four times what we had spent. The reception personnel indicated it was policy to take a room deposit, but this had not been disclosed at the time of check in. She also supplied us with a print out of our room bill which showed multiple duplications of puchases made over the period we had been at the hotel. The last night at the hotel we paid our room bill (minus the duplicated charges). On check out and handing in our key cards we received another bill for payment!!! The person at reception having to defer to another in the area to review the record and confirm payment had already been made!! Other than the problems encountered at the reception/accounts area, all in all the Westin was a good place to stay and very handy to the Marina area and restaurants - try the Indigo indian/ asian restaurant, excellent food and a a good price. My advice to anyone staying at any hotel/ resort that has room accounts is to CHECK YOUR BILL regularly and keep a copy of anything you sign for. It could save you a lot of your hard earned money. Having read previous Trip Advisor reviews on a number of resorts in Fiji and the islands I was left confused as there always seemed to be a real mix of positives and negatives for every resort I looked at. As such I ended up going on a travel agent's recommendation to the Westin on Denarau island. As there was only me and my 2 teenage kids, I went with some trepidation but took a balanced view that this wouldn't be an Asian style 5 star resort plus to accept that "Fiji time" meant adjusting to the relaxed Fijian way of life.................. What I found at the Westin was, on the whole, a fantastic resort. As you approach the grand entrance and open reception area we were immediately offered a welcome drink while we were checked in. Our room was a little way from reception but we were driven there by golf buggy and then shown around the room and all its amenities. We were then immediately struck by the views from our ground floor room - onto the beach, ocean and outlying islands. As we arrived in the late afternoon, the sun was already lowering in the sky and within an hour we'd experienced the first of several stunning sunsets. The room itself was clean and comfortable. As per a couple of other reviews, some of the furnishings were a little dated but this didn't detract too much. Yes, I can see why some parts of Denarau aren't for everyone. At several points along the coastline of the island the beach is just a strip of sand and then rocks down to the water. if you are expecting to go snorkelling off the beach you'd be disappointed but we went well aware of this so this is written as a 'watch out' and not a complaint. Our room was 2611 and this block leads straight onto the beach and has no rocks. Given the geography though there is not really any point snorkelling so book an island trip if this is what you are heading to Fiji for. If, on the other hand you want to chill, just swim in the warm sea and unwind, the Westin is a perfect place to do just that. We ate in the hotel that evening and yes, food was pricey but good quality. We soon learned that it's better to eat at Port Denerau (about a third of the price) plus has the added attraction of taking the Bula bus which is only FJD$6 per person per day for as many trips as you like. As per most other reviews, the staff were great. Very happy people who provided good service, advice and help when required. The restaurants at the port are varied and provided a good choice of food. I can highly recommend Nadini's for great Fijian food and excellent service. As part of the package for our trip we also had a day trip to South Sea Island. We were there for the whole day which may be too much for some people as the island is small. However, you can sail, kayak and snorkel to your heart's content. To give you an idea of size, even an unfit 47 year old like me was able to kayak around the island. My 2 teenagers and I decided therefore to go scuba diving, which was a new experience for the 3 of us and I'd like to that, Joe, Rose and the team for their time and attention both before and during the dives. The marine life is amazing and included sharks and rays. Breathtaking! So to sum up. If you go to the Westin expecting wonderful snorkelling straight from your room and the sort of 5 star resort you'd find in Hong Kong, then yes, you'll probably be disappointed. If, however, you want to find somewhere to relax, unwind and to sample the legendary hospitality the Fiji is renowned for, the you won't do much better. I'd definitely recommend it and would go back in a heartbeat. Close

Bed was great - very comfortable. Staff were helpful but not knowledgeable. Food was over-priced and of a poor quality. Room was dark and run down. Not what I would expect of a Westin.

Owners should pay more and employ trained, competent staff at front desk. Despite requesting months ago that we wanted 2 adjacent rooms (family of 4 adults and child ) when we checked in we were told that it was not possible. We were allocated rooms in different blocks. After I became persistent (took half an hour) they managed to find us a room in the same block (not adjacent but close by) They had just not bothered to check properly the first time. Close
